3 Proven Ingredients to Reduce Large Pores

According to a study conducted in 2016, the following are the main causes of large pores [R]:

1. Excessive oil or sebum production in the sebaceous gland, which causes oily skin

2. Decreased skin elasticity due to aging

3. An increased volume of hair follicle due to clogging of pores

The buildup of dirt, oil, and facial products can cause your pores to be clogged or blocked. This then stretches your pores and make them appear enlarged [R].

Although there is no definitive solution to get rid of large pores, there are some ingredients you can use to minimize their size. We have listed here three safe and common ingredients to help reduce the appearance of large pores, especially on your nose.

1. Salicylic Acid

Aside from being a famous acne solution, salicylic acid is also great for minimizing large pores. This is because it helps unclog pores by getting rid of dead skin cells. Just make sure to use it in moderation because it tends to dry out the skin [R].

2. Niacinamide

This is one form of vitamin B3. It is a water-soluble vitamin that helps increase the elasticity of your skin. Niacinamide is not only good for large pores, but it also helps reduce uneven skin tone, dullness, wrinkles, acne, and fine lines. It basically helps in protein production and acts as a moisturizer to combat environmental damage to your skin. It also regulates the production of oil and reduces acne [R].

3. Green Tea

Another product that is good for large pores is green tea. There were a couple of studies conducted that showed green tea helps reduce oil production in the skin, which is one of the causes of large pores.

One study with 10 participants applying a 3% green tea solution in a span of eight weeks showed a significant decrease in sebum production after being evaluated with a photometric device called sebumeter. The same results were achieved with another study conducted with 22 participants applying a green tea solution in a span of 60 days. Aside from decreasing sebum production, green tea also helps cleanse your skin and unclog your pores, making them appear smaller than they actually are [R].
